I said I was wrapping up my happiness series last Friday but it turns out that I\u2019m a big, fat liar, because there\u2019s one more tip I want to share with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking of lying, one of the biggest lies we\u2019ve been sold is that happiness is something that needs to be achieved \u2013 that after accomplishing our goals and dreams we\u2019ll find happiness and satisfaction waiting for us at the finish line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It makes logical sense, but it just ain\u2019t so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What\u2019s waiting at the finish line is a burst of dopamine \u2013 a momentary feeling of pleasure that makes you feel like you\u2019re on top of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But only for a short time. And then your brain thinks up 50 other things you haven\u2019t accomplished yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019ll continuously point out new, potential problems and convince you they need to be solved before you can be happy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And it won\u2019t stop until the day you die.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The worst part is that your mind doesn\u2019t understand the concept of \u201cthe future.\u201d Everything is either happening right now, or it doesn\u2019t exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Which means that telling yourself you\u2019ll eventually get to be happy \u201csomeday\u201d is the equivalent of saying \u201cnever.\u201d You\u2019ll be waiting for a huge payoff that never comes while trapped in a life-long cycle of misery and disappointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But there is a way to win this game. And you do so by realizing that happiness is found along the JOURNEY, not the destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All throughout the plotting and planning, the ups and downs, the occasional small wins, the roadblocks, setbacks and huge failures\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2026that\u2019s where your happiness is hiding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In other words, it\u2019s all around you at this very moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Set go set fun, challenging goals for yourself that light you up and motivate you to keep moving forward. And then train yourself to enjoy every second of the experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
